Hobbs Road Extension to FM 517

The City is working on plans to extend and improve Hobbs Road near FM 517.

The project will build four lanes of Hobbs Road for about 1,200 feet north of FM 517. After that, the road will become two lanes and connect to the existing Hobbs Road near Patagonia Street.

Cemetery Road will also be moved at FM 517 so it can connect safely with the new Hobbs Road.

The project will also include new storm drains, a stormwater pump station, and a detention pond to help manage rainwater and prevent flooding.

There are also two additional improvements that may be included:

  • Adding two more northbound lanes for about 1,200 feet north of FM 517.
  • Adding two more southbound lanes from Ervin Street to just south of Safford Road.

Where are we now?
The construction plans are almost finished. The City expects to ask for construction bids in mid-October, with bids opening before Thanksgiving.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2027 and take about 12–18 months to complete.

Estimated Cost: $6.8 million, including the additional improvements.

Funding: Galveston County has committed $2 million toward the project.

Photo Updates will become available once construction begins.
